Before you buy
What should you check before you buy Snap-8?
Check the full chemical name and sequence. Snap-8 is the eight amino acid peptide Ac-EEMQRRAD-NH2. Argireline is the six amino acid peptide Ac-EEMQRR-NH2. A six amino acid sample relabeled with the Snap-8 trade name would be a different molecule.
Identity and purity are different checks. A mass test should support the stated chemical identity, while HPLC separates the sample to measure purity. A trade name, vial size or purity number alone does not establish the eight amino acid sequence.
The certificate for this batch is pending, so no measured purity or mass identity is claimed yet. There is no certificate publication date to quote. Published batch reports belong on the certificates page, and the peptide purity guide explains the general checks.

The short answer
What is Snap-8?
Acetyl octapeptide-3 is an eight amino acid peptide written Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH2. The shorter form is Ac-EEMQRRAD-NH2. It was designed from the end of SNAP-25, a protein involved in the release of nerve-cell messengers, and was developed as a cosmetic ingredient.
PubChem lists CAS 868844-74-0 and the synonym acetyl glutamyl heptapeptide-3. Its records use slightly different chemical representations for the same trade-name family. This page gives the sequence and CAS identity rather than choosing a single molecular weight that would hide that difference.
A reference database describes a molecule. It does not certify a particular sale batch. The chemical description here should therefore be read separately from the pending batch certificate.

The science
How Snap-8 works in research models
A cosmetic peptide review describes Snap-8 as a SNAP-25 mimic. SNAP-25 is part of the SNARE complex, a group of proteins that helps nerve cells release their chemical messengers. The review describes competition during assembly of that complex and lower glutamate release in a laboratory assay.
SNAP-25 mimic design
The sequence copies one end of the SNAP-25 protein. The laboratory question concerns protein assembly and messenger release.
The SNARE complex
This protein assembly helps cells release their messengers. The review describes how the mimic competes during assembly.
Two extra amino acids
The Snap-8 sequence adds alanine and aspartic acid to the six amino acids of Argireline.

Applications
Common research areas
Cosmetic peptide classes
Reviews place acetyl octapeptide-3 in the neurotransmitter-inhibitor group, separate from signal and carrier peptides.
SNARE complex biology
Laboratory research examines protein assembly and the release of messengers such as glutamate.
Cosmetic patch formulas
Two small studies examined microneedle patch formulations containing acetyl octapeptide-3 with several other ingredients.
Sequence comparison
Argireline and Snap-8 share six amino acids. Their lengths differ, and each needs its own evidence.

Comparison
How does Snap-8 compare with Argireline and Matrixyl?
Argireline and Snap-8 share a design family, while palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 belongs to another cosmetic peptide group. A longer sequence does not establish a stronger effect. The amount of independent evidence also differs between the molecules.
| Peptide | Sequence and class | Evidence distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Snap-8 | Ac-EEMQRRAD-NH2, eight amino acids. Neurotransmitter-inhibitor peptide. | A mechanism review and two small studies of formulas containing several ingredients. |
| Argireline | Ac-EEMQRR-NH2, six amino acids. Neurotransmitter-inhibitor peptide. | A separate laboratory paper examined the parent SNAP-25 mimic design. |
| Matrixyl | Pal-KTTKS, five amino acids. Signal peptide. | A different molecule studied for collagen-fragment signaling and cosmetic formulas. |
For a collagen-signaling peptide from a different group, see Matrixyl peptide. The sequence comparison is EEMQRR for Argireline and EEMQRR plus AD for Snap-8. It explains chemical identity, rather than a ranking of cosmetic effects.

Evidence
What did the Snap-8 studies measure?
The published record is thin. A review describes the design and a laboratory assay. The two small cosmetic studies examined patches that contained several ingredients, so their measurements cannot be assigned to acetyl octapeptide-3 alone.
The cosmetic peptide review
Model: Published cosmetic peptide literature and a laboratory glutamate-release assay.
Measured: The review describes SNAP-25 mimic design and lower glutamate release in the assay. Its cosmetic effect figures trace to the maker, so those figures are not repeated here.
The single-center patch study
Model: A 12-week study of a hyaluronic acid microneedle patch containing acetyl octapeptide-3 and other actives.
Measured: Researchers recorded skin measures and reported no skin reactions. The formula contained several ingredients and did not isolate Snap-8.
The paired-eye patch study
Model: 24 healthy people in a 28-day comparison of a multi-ingredient patch and a plain patch.
Measured: Researchers recorded wrinkle and skin measures and reported no adverse effects. Acetyl octapeptide-3 was one of three actives, so the comparison did not isolate it.
Snap-8 evidence ledger
PubMed searches on October 7, 2026 found two papers for the exact term acetyl octapeptide-3. Both were multi-ingredient cosmetic patch studies. The search for acetyl glutamyl heptapeptide returned zero papers. These dated counts show the limits of that search, rather than proving that no other record exists.
| Search on October 7, 2026 | Papers | What the count means |
|---|---|---|
| Acetyl octapeptide-3 | 2 | Both tested patches with several ingredients. |
| Acetyl glutamyl heptapeptide | 0 | No paper returned for this exact search term. |

Evidence limits
What is not known about Snap-8?
The dated evidence check found no peer-reviewed study of Snap-8 alone. The patch studies tested mixtures, and their skin measurements cannot establish the contribution of one ingredient. A favorable finding for a whole patch is therefore not a finding for this research vial.
The published papers do not provide a measured body half-life or a safety dataset for the separate peptide. Reports of no skin reactions in small, short cosmetic studies do not settle those questions. The participants, formulas and study periods define what the reports can support.
Some cosmetic figures repeated online trace to the maker rather than an independent study. This page leaves those figures out and keeps the laboratory mechanism separate from cosmetic measurements. Batch identity and purity need a batch report. This page claims neither while the certificate is pending.

Snap-8 research FAQ
What is Snap-8 peptide?
Snap-8 is acetyl octapeptide-3, an eight amino acid peptide designed to copy one end of SNAP-25. SNAP-25 is a protein involved in the release of nerve-cell messengers. The peptide was developed as a cosmetic ingredient.
What has Snap-8 been studied for?
A review describes its SNAP-25 mimic design and a laboratory glutamate-release assay. Two small cosmetic studies examined patches containing acetyl octapeptide-3 with other ingredients, so they cannot establish what Snap-8 does alone.
How is Snap-8 different from Argireline?
Snap-8 has the six amino acids of Argireline plus alanine and aspartic acid. Both belong to the neurotransmitter-inhibitor cosmetic peptide group. Argireline has a laboratory paper of its own; the October 7, 2026 evidence check found no peer-reviewed study of Snap-8 alone.
Is Snap-8 the same as Matrixyl?
No. Matrixyl is palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, a signal peptide studied for collagen signaling. Snap-8 belongs to a different group studied for the SNARE complex, the protein assembly involved in nerve-cell messenger release.
Are there side effects reported for Snap-8?
The two cosmetic patch studies reported no skin reactions or adverse effects during their study periods. Both tested several ingredients together. That does not establish a safety record for Snap-8 on its own or for this research vial.
Is Snap-8 approved as a medicine?
Acetyl octapeptide-3 is a cosmetic ingredient, rather than an approved medicine. Peptara Labs sells this vial for research use only.
